Ahh, the unmitigated hell of a blank page. Welcome. This is the first post on the second Proxmox installation on the third server of the fourth attempt to get into something techy besides all the other stuff I’ve been doing plus my work, which is in industrial controls and mostly sitting at a desk sending emails and not having any fun.
The whole point of this exercise was first to build out a NAS, on TrueNAS, which used to be FreeNAS until they realized they couldn’t sell corporations on that name and they desperately needed you and me to be ironing out the bugs daily for the corp accounts. It worked, it’s a popular appliance, and I had started just by building one of those. And then it snowballed.
Now, there’s the original NAS, built on TrueNAS CORE on a Chenbro NR1200, a giant beast of a 1U server that can hold 12 drives; the server this is running on, a Hyve Zeus with not enough memory and crap configuration running Proxmox, of which this is a container; and two HP S01 SFF boxes running Plex and some containers, and my OPNsense installation. What was just a dream of having Plex and a backup for my digital shit has snowballed into something interesting.
And dare I say it–fun?
I’m Raymond Garety, I don’t write enough, I have a skull full of thoughts that won’t go anywhere, and a dream of cutting through that mess with something creative.
Again, welcome. It’s going to be incompetent and weird. And chances are you’ll never see this, unless I figure out how to back up and restore pages after I inevitably beef up this install.
